As a Team Director in Drug Product Development, you will be responsible for leading a talented team of scientists in the development of GSK's injectable drug products (small molecules, oligonucleotides, and biologics). This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead and develop people, drive strategic project and departmental direction, and progress YOUR career. The responsibilities include the following:
- Lead a team of pharmaceutical scientists and ensure the successful development of sterile drug products from Candidate Selection through to commercialization and Life Cycle, by utilizing sound judgement, knowledge and expertise, to devise and implement appropriate drug product development strategies in alignment with project plans.
- Ensure the development of patient centric, robust, reliable, and high-quality drug product formulations and the associated manufacturing processes.
- Instigate, lead, or contribute to Drug Product Development strategy.
- Contribute to establishment of discipline excellence in Drug Product Development for sterile portfolio and capability investment strategy.
- Supervise, in an effective manner, scientists performing formulation and process development activities.
- Serve as an active and influential member of matrix teams.
- Manage the project specific interfaces both within and outside of Medicine Development & Supply to ensure the successful progression of project plans effectively.
- Partner with Global Supply Chain and other Medicine Development & Supply groups for effective integration of manufacturing activities.
- Participate in the resolution of any technical issues during the clinical phases of development, with the goal of maintaining continuity of supply to patients.
- Ensure appropriate application of key guidance, procedures, and policies (e.g. GMP, ICH, and SOPs)
- Ensure that the required initial and continuing training and development plans of your team personnel is carried out and adapted according to need.
- Ensure an effective departmental safety culture and program is supported, including regular audits and Gembas.
- Create an environment that stimulates, develops, and promotes the scientific and career development of others.
- Manage performance of direct reports, develop their performance plans, conduct formal performance appraisals, and make recommendations, when appropriate, for advancement.
- Contribute to the overall operation of the department, including resource & capability planning and budget management.
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- PhD in Pharmaceutics, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or other related fields
- 10+ years of industrial experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical development
- Experience in people and technical leadership.
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- Sought out as an expert and resource in formulation and process development of injectable small molecules and biologics.
- Demonstrated capability and proven track record in science and technology driven sterile dosage form design and development.
- Demonstrated ability to influence projects outside of your own team and are recognized by your internal peers outside of immediate work group as an expert in a specific scientific or technical area.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people across GSK network, influence matrix teams and colleagues in other divisions and communicate with leadership and governance groups.
- Excellent understanding of the product development process, from pre-formulation through to commercialization and post launch process improvements.
- Has knowledge of related scientific disciplines as they apply to drug discovery/development and understands key scientific areas impacting sterile projects.
- Demonstrates a detailed fundamental knowledge of literature in own specialty area or scientific discipline.
- Demonstrated proficiency in prioritizing and coordinating several areas of work.
