Summary:
The Associate Staff Controls Engineer leads medium to high complexity projects. This role requires functional and industry expertise, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking. The candidate must effectively communicate technical subjects, both written and verbally, across all organizational levels and influence stakeholders to provide engineering solutions.
In addition, the Associate Staff Engineer will:
- Lead the development/assessment of state-of-the-art control systems suitable for a manufacturing facility that meet project requirements and business objectives.
- Lead selection, design, installation and commissioning of control systems and automated equipment in the execution of capital projects, meeting budget, schedule, and scope.
- Manage small capital projects, including cost, schedule, and resources (internal and contract)
- Problem solving through application of experience, research, and critical thinking.
- Strong technical expertise in manufacturing automation systems and components.
- Strong understanding of Hershey processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
- Effective communicator with multifunctional team members and Hershey management.
- Working knowledge in programming PLCs/PACs and motion control systems (Rockwell and Siemens preferred).
- Knowledge in configuring HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk SE/ME and Ignition preferred).
- Familiarity with process instrumentation (temperature, level, pressure, flow, mass).
- Basic understanding of electrical regulatory requirements.
- Experience with electrical schematics, P&IDs, control system design, and project estimation.
- Beneficial experience in developing and installing 480 VAC, 120 VAC, and 24 VDC power systems.
- Technical troubleshooting skills with hands-on problem-solving experience.
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and excellent communication skills.
- Adaptability to change and ability to execute projects on schedule and budget.
- Willingness to travel internationally (>30%).
- BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related Engineering Field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in controls engineering for Food Processing, Confectionery, Pharmaceutical or related industries.
