Job Description
This Cook position focuses on accurately and efficiently preparing, cooking, portioning, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events in a healthcare and retirement community setting. You will follow established recipes and food safety standards while delivering high-quality meals and excellent customer service in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook made-to-order foods that may require short preparation times while maintaining speed and accuracy.
- Prepare and serve food to customers at an à la carte or grill station as needed.
- Follow current federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service.
- Read food orders or follow verbal instructions and prepare and cook food according to specific directions.
- Provide consistently high-quality service to customers and residents at all times.
- Follow basic recipes and product directions to prepare, season, cook, taste, carve, and serve soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, baked goods, and other menu items.
- Operate a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, and trim and cut meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use under direct supervision or instruction.
- Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production levels, and keep records to accurately plan production and requisition supplies and equipment.
- Support food preparation and production for tray line and line cook operations as needed.
- Assist with bakery and baking tasks as part of overall food production responsibilities.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and kitchen equipment in compliance with company, client, and regulatory procedures.
- Attend all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training sessions and apply that knowledge in daily work.
- Comply with all HACCP policies and procedures to ensure food safety.
- Report all accidents and injuries promptly and follow safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
- Attend designated classroom and virtual training programs to maintain and improve skills.
- Receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies, and properly store items as needed.
- Prepare meals for customers requiring special diets in accordance with specified guidelines.
- Produce batch goods using basic cooking techniques when required.
- Support hospitality and customer service standards throughout the dining operation.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to prepare and cook foods to order in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience following basic recipes and product directions for soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other menu items.
- Ability to operate a variety of kitchen equipment safely and effectively for measuring, mixing, washing, peeling, cutting, shredding, trimming, and cooking food items.
- Strong understanding of and adherence to food safety, sanitation, and HACCP policies and procedures.
- Capability to read and follow written food orders, menus, and verbal instructions accurately.
- Attention to detail in tasting products, checking production, and estimating food requirements.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service at all times.
- Ability to follow safety and risk management policies and promptly report accidents and injuries.
- Willingness to attend and apply training related to allergies, foodborne illness, safety, and operational procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on tray line service in a healthcare or retirement community environment.
- Exposure to bakery or baking tasks as part of a food service operation.
- Ability to support special diets and understand basic dietary needs in a healthcare or retirement setting.
- Comfort working in a moderate to loud kitchen environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs, including special events and catered functions.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
