Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies (VAX) Process R&D is responsible for the development and clinical manufacturing of Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Product Intermediates (DPI) for the vaccine and advanced therapy pipeline, spanning from preclinical to commercialization stages. We are part of the Process R&D organization, which enables modality-agnostic DS/DPI process development and clinical manufacturing for all of our company's pipeline.

Applications are sought for an experienced scientist opportunity in Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies (VAX) Process R&D organization specifically under the Vaccine Process Development department.

Under the direction of the group leader, the individual will be responsible for process development of vaccine candidates. The successful candidate will perform lab-scale process development/scale-up studies, develop robust, efficient, scalable processes for vaccine production, and transfer processes to clinical or commercial manufacturing facilities for vaccine candidates.

The candidate will be responsible for conceiving, designing, and implementing experiments to advance the development of vaccines and therapeutics. This will require collaboration with cross-functional teams including colleagues in Discovery, Analytical, Formulation, GMP Operations and Enabling Technologies.

Duties may include but are not limited to lab scale cell culture, fermentation, centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, bioconjugation, in-process assays, process scale-up and engineering, GMP document preparation and modifications, maintaining/coordinating raw material, and equipment inventories, technology transfer to manufacturing, and functioning as a key member of a process development team.

This position requires the employee to be willing to work with infectious agents and/or pathogens. Travel may be required to support technology transfer. This position will require occasional off hour and weekend work.

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Candidates must have completed their PhD in engineering or the life sciences by 2025, prior to beginning in the role.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:

Candidates should have:
  • Experience with bioprocess development (cell culture, bioreactors, separations/purification).
  • Possesses digital skills for managing extensive datasets. Has experience with any of the following: DeltaV, PI, Spotfire, Seeq, JMP, MS Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate), Python or other programming languages.
