Objectives of this role
- Work with production planning and operations to ensure the safe manufacture of nuclear fuel for power plants
- Analyze existing systems and processes and identify value-added and non-value-added activities to solve design challenges
- Evaluate new and existing processes, equipment, and materials as an input for scheduling methods, performance metrics, and financial standards
- Uphold the company's reputation by delivering innovative solutions while adhering to commitments made to government regulators
- Identify opportunities for preventing waste and inefficiency during production
- Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen and Six Sigma to formulate and support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements
- Design and develop robust manufacturing concepts to simplify and improve processes and ensure best practices
- Create and maintain required product specifications, preventative maintenance, and procedures for manufacturing processes
- Work with quality engineering to disposition material that has deviated from normal manufacturing processes
- Collaborate with manufacturing areas upstream and downstream of your processes to ensure timely product flow through the manufacturing floor
- Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for your assigned areas, and drive changes to help improve OEE
- Work with area manager to track Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and implement process improvements to help eliminate scrap and rework processes in your area(s)
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (chemical preferred)
- 3-5 years experience
- In-depth understanding of lean manufacturing principles
- Hands-on experience building small prototypes
- Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time studies, and process balancing
- Ability to collaborate with program managers, manufacturing leads, customers, and functional leads, and to provide daily direction and guidance to other process engineers, and operators
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Nuclear experience preferred, but not required
