Description:

This position is for a lab technician in the Bake Lab. They will be making dough and baking it to test the yeast activity. They will measure how much yeast rises, conduct oven solids, perform hardness tests, pressure, salt, conductivity, pH, and caustic titrations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Education and Experience: ▪ Technical Degree (e.g. CEGEP or other) or Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on Laboratory Techniques, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or another science-related discipline. ▪ Industrial/Quality control laboratory experience is preferred. *A.S. degrees are also accepted as well as no degree if the candidate has experience in food lab quality. They need to understand aseptic technique as well as the following tests: pH, solids, moisture, salt, titrations, starch, gas activity. Candidates with any restaurant experience especially baking such as working for a pizza restaurant or bakery is highly preferred. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: ▪ Working knowledge in Good Laboratory Practices and aseptic sampling principles. ▪ Prior experience and/or an understanding of the ISO 17 025 standard, Good Manufacturing Practices and/or HACCP principles is a plus. ▪ An understanding of statistical process control (SPC) tools and experience with an SPC charting software such as Minitab is a plus. ▪ Experience with or an interest in the application of lean six sigma principles into a laboratory environment. ▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Prior experience with a LEMS is a plus. ▪ Accuracy and attention to detail; logical and methodical approach to problem solving. ▪ Ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with co-workers, both inside and outside the laboratory department. Industrial/QC Lab experience is preferred. Food lab experience preferred.
