Job Description
As an Ammonia Technician, you will maintain ammonia and HVAC cooling systems, ensuring high equipment availability rates. You will utilize preventive and predictive maintenance processes to rapidly troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and restore equipment to service promptly. Your role will involve proactively seeking methods of improvement by communicating with supervisors, other system technicians, and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Respond to any breakdowns, including boilers and air compressors, especially when on call.
- Perform charging, evacuation, and pressure testing of system vessels and components during projects and Line Breaking procedures in accordance with established policies and industry standards.
- Install and replace refrigeration system components and associated equipment, following the guidelines set forth by the management of change procedure.
- Lift and carry less than 100 lbs frequently; handle objects with manual dexterity; reach outward and climb frequently around equipment and occasionally use ladders to access roofs.
- Execute diagnostics and repair of valves, controls, and pumps in ammonia systems.
- Fabricate and fit system components using power and hand tools.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance tasks to prolong the lifespan and utility of equipment.
- Test lines, components, and connections to locate leaks.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively.
- Pass a respirator fit test.
- Perform basic maintenance on production equipment when necessary.
- Strong electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical diagrams.
- Solid working experience with two-stage ammonia systems, mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Industrial Maintenance & Refrigeration.
- Experience with preventive/predictive maintenance procedures in ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Blueprint and schematic reading skills.
- Experience working on screw compressors, ammonia pumps, controls, ammonia valve stations, spiral freezers, and chill water systems.
- RETA or Operator 1 or 2 certification required.
- Steam boiler experience and thermal fluid boiler experience are a plus.
- 24 hr./40 hr. Hazmat training is a plus.
- Knowledge of electrical motor control or PLC is a plus.
- PSM training is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand documents.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ownership of hand tools.
- Good observation skills.

Work Environment
This role operates within a food and beverage manufacturing environment, predominantly in freezer and cold conditions.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $40.00/hr.
