Job Title: Software Architect
Job Description
We are seeking a Software Architect to lead the modernization of build automation and CI/CD pipelines supporting critical undersea warfare systems. This role is part of a high-visibility initiative aimed at transforming legacy workflows into scalable, modular GitLab-based pipelines. You will work closely with DevOps engineers, software developers, and cross-functional teams to define and implement the future build flow architecture. This hands-on architecture role has strategic impact across multiple initiatives, offering deep engagement with site-wide modernization efforts and opportunities to shape long-term technical direction.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement modern CI/CD pipelines using GitLab Runners.
- Evaluate and refactor existing workflows based on Bash scripting.
- Collaborate with teams to modularize monolithic packages for targeted deployments.
- Integrate binary management tools such as Artifactory and static analysis tools like Fortify.
- Design and execute GitLab pipelines for build, compile, module execution, and deployment.
- Troubleshoot GitLab pipeline issues and optimize performance.
- Generate and manage Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs).
- Explore opportunities to leverage AI for build flow analysis and refactoring.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in software development or DevOps roles.
- Experience architecting CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
- Strong proficiency in Bash/Python scripting and C programming.
- Familiarity with Artifactory, Fortify, and Gradle.
- Experience with SBOM generation and management.
- Eligibility for a US Secret Clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in DoD or Navy systems environments.
- Familiarity with AI/ML tools for code analysis or pipeline optimization.
Work Environment
The position is 100% onsite in the ASW Lab located in Manassas, VA. The role offers a lot of visibility and opportunities for networking across different initiatives, with an emphasis on supporting undersea warfare systems. The successful candidate will engage with various programs and have the potential to make a significant impact on site-wide modernization efforts, with some initiatives focused on cloud technologies.
