Job Title: Medical Assistant - Norfolk, Virginia


Job Description

As a Medical Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the care of incoming patients.

  • This will include obtaining vital signs, recording the chief complaint, reconciling medication lists and allergies, assessing smoking status and preparing the patient for their visit.
  • You will also be responsible for preparing exam rooms for patient visits, restocking clinical areas and exam rooms, sterilizing instruments when used, and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Your role will also involve documentation of interventions in the electronic medical record, reviewing charts for completeness, test results and billing, scanning upcoming appointments for additional medical record information and obtaining medical records from other sources as necessary.
  • You will also be required to complete all tasks assigned to your individual team, including responding to patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agencies, medication prior authorizations, patient forms and follow up from physicians.
  • You will also be asked to administer and collect patient satisfaction surveys and contact patients in between visits to assess medical status and medication adherence.
  • You will also be expected to adhere to protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Annual recertification for OSHA, HIPAA, Compliance, Respiratory FIT and IT policy is required, as well as maintaining current CPR and MA certification.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Norfolk, Virginia.


Work Environment

The standard shift for this position is Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with a 30-minute lunch break.
