Job Title: Phlebotomist


Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to perform blood draws, label specimens, and process samples while maintaining accurate records and ensuring decontamination procedures are followed. The role requires the collection and storage of specimens according to established protocols, with clear and courteous communication to patients regarding the procedures involved, including venipuncture and other specimen collections as required. Mastery of techniques using straight and butterfly needles is necessary, along with a thorough understanding of physicians' orders. The phlebotomist will ensure laboratory requisition forms match specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as needed, and package them for transport, ensuring proper temperature storage.


Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Update patient information and decontaminate as necessary.
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and execute all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring correct temperature storage.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy certification in Washington State
  • 0-6 months' experience with venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Certified Phlebotomist (MA-P, PBT, RPT) certification
  • Knowledge in specimen processing and labeling
  • Experience with centrifuge operations

Work Environment

The position is a float role and involves travel to various locations such as Kennewick, Richland, or Pasco in the Tri Cities area. The schedule is provided weekly, detailing where you will report. Expect to serve approximately 30 patients a day, depending on location, within a Patient Service Center (PSC) environment. The role involves 50% travel.
