Recovery 1, a Waste Connections company, has an immediate opening for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to support our recycling, composting, and disposal operations serving the Tacoma and surrounding South Sound areas.
This role is ideal for a skilled diesel mechanic seeking stable, long-term employment in a safety-focused, team-oriented environment. Our mechanics play a critical role in keeping essential equipment operating safely and efficiently every day.

Pay & Schedule
- Pay Range: $38.00-$45.00 per hour, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications
- Schedule: Monday - Friday 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM, averaging 3-10 hours of overtime per week
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment
- Conduct safety checks and routine inspections on vehicles and equipment
- Review, troubleshoot, and complete repairs noted on Operator Vehicle Inspection Reports (OVIRs)
- Perform maintenance-related work as assigned
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards
- Follow all established safety procedures at all times
- Communicate equipment conditions, repair needs, and work status clearly and effectively

- Dust, dirt, mud, and grease
- Odors associated with recycling and waste materials
- Heat, cold, and varying weather conditions depending on the season
- Noise from operating equipment and vehicle traffic
- Possible exposure to rodents and insects common to outdoor industrial environments
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy equipment or heavy diesel maintenance and repair
- Strong knowledge of yellow iron / heavy equipment
- ASE certifications or welding certifications preferred, but not required
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
- Own and provide personal mechanic tools
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Proficiency in equipment diagnostics and repair
- Ability to read and understand service manuals and technical documentation
- High School Diploma or GED required
