Description:
Responsible for the development and documentation of electrical and avionics systems designs in a cross-functional engineering team environment.
This role will be designing electrical installation systems, DER approving electrical installation systems, creating certification reports and electrical installation reports, checking various electrical drawings and reports, mentoring team members, coordinating and collaborating with team members, the FAA, and customers.
- Develops detailed designs by analyzing product or equipment specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities. Performs diverse and complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of products by applying advanced engineering principles. Develops complex concepts for use in detailed design.
- Provides technical information affecting long range plant and product engineering planning by researching manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations.
- Conducts complex design and review of analyses pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes and completes required documentation by applying advanced engineering principles and company standards, and generating detailed reports, procedures, or change proposals. Prepares documents and presents results to internal and external customers. Approval of moderately complex design reports.
- Develops acceptance, engineering evaluation, development and qualification/certification test plans, procedures, and reports for large scale or complex products. Compiles and analyzes operation, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
- Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-determining optimum solutions, and implementing recommendations.
- Directs preparation of product design data, which includes detailed drawings, assembly drawings, wire diagrams, and installation drawings by coordinating with customer, engineers, designers, and drafters, interpreting complex customer and functional requirements. Develops critical data and makes advanced layouts and documentation necessary to present design proposals to customers.
- Reviews complex drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies. Directs revisions and improvements to engineers or designers.
- Communicates with customer to establish understanding of customer’s technical requirements and convey design capabilities, product performance, and organizational expertise. Identifies new business opportunities.
- Creates complex technical proposals for customers by integrating knowledge of product, regulatory requirements, market, price point, organizational capabilities, and corporate strategy.
- Enhances products and processes by applying continuous improvement methodologies in design, manufacturing, and organizational areas. Directs or leads product and process improvement initiatives.
Skills:
Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace, DER, FAA, Technical Writing, AutoCAD
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Electrical Systems and Equipment DER for Part 23 (preferred) and 25 (required)- Understanding aircraft systems from the electrical standpoint. If they are an Electrical Systems and Equipment DER they should have this knowledge. Must provide their FAA Official Certificate and Letter of Authority and DMS Designee Number and show up when searching the official FAA records.
Able to create or check the various certification documents (certification plan, compliance report, system safety assessment, etc.) - Being able to create certification plans, compliance reports, issue papers, system safety assessments and other certification related documentation.
Able to design electrical aircraft installations.- Understand aircraft wiring diagrams and systems to be able to create electrical installation packages and design electrical installation kits. The software used is Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) as well as AutoCAD.
Note - The DERs that show up on the website are consultant DERs which means they hold the approvals themselves and it isn’t tied to a company. Another type of DER is a company DER. These DERs are limited in what they can approve. These people will not show up on the DER directly because they are only allowed to approve data on behalf of the company they are currently working for. We don’t want to discount these people either but it would require us to talk to the FAA first to see if they could have the approval transferred to us.
