Job Title: Quality Engineer


Job Description

The Quality Engineer serves as the APQP and PPAP team leader, focusing on developing Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEA, Control Plans, and inspection instructions and procedures. This role acts as a liaison between the customer and the company throughout the APQP process, from initial design review to successful PPAP submission. The Quality Engineer plays a vital role in responding to and resolving customer complaints, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with ISO13485, AS9100, and ISO 9000 standards.


Responsibilities

  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEA, Control Plans, and operation and inspection instructions.
  • Serve as a liaison between the customer and the company throughout the APQP process.
  • Respond to, research, and implement corrective actions for customer complaints.
  • Define production routings and refine them for quality or manufacturability improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and lead corrective and preventative action initiatives.
  • Handle all aspects of supplier quality, including evaluation and development of corrective actions.
  • Ensure quality systems are maintained in accordance with ISO13485, AS9100, and ISO 9000 standards.
  • Compile First Article Inspection reports (FAI per AS9102) and Certificates of Compliance for shipments.
  • Design tooling, gages, and fixtures, and coordinate with vendors for creation.
  • Schedule and prepare for customer source inspections.
  • Lead the evaluation and purchase of inspection equipment capital upgrades.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in quality application tools such as SPC, APQP, and PPAP.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal, written, and computer formats.
  • Good customer relations skills.
  • Ability to thrive as a change agent in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in quality engineering, corrective action plans, and audits.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in metals manufacturing is needed.
  • Knowledge of implementing SPC software, Six Sigma, Lean, and internal auditing is desired.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ITAR regulations is advantageous.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of a collaborative team, including a leadership team of five, three of whom have been there for over six months, and one quality technician with six years of experience. The company is currently rebuilding the team, offering a fresh start and opportunities for growth. The role involves occasional multitasking due to the size of the company.
