Data Center Technician

Job Summary:

TEKsystems is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Center Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting one of the most high-profile and rapidly growing data center initiatives in the country. This role involves supporting data center decommissioning, cable management, hardware setup, and physical audits across multiple sites nationwide.

Key Responsibilities:

• Remove network cables as part of data center decommissioning efforts.
• Run, label, and stage power and networking cables.
• Perform DBD removal (no scanning required).
• Follow procedures for installing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning equipment under the guidance of Data Center Technician Leads.
• Prepare, stage, and perform basic hardware startups and shutdowns using written instructions and checklists.
• Conduct physical audits of data center assets.
• Monitor systems for equipment failures or performance issues.
• Respond to program error messages and assist in debugging and testing.
• Operate spreadsheet and software tools to manage and report data.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Open to working at all Milwaukee-area data center sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in computer programming or equivalent training.
• 5+ years of data center experience.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
