The Manufacturing Technician I/II is responsible for equipment prep, formulation, aseptic compounding, and filling activities for biopharma and medical device products, as well as following recipes (SOPs - Standard Operating Procedures) to mix and formulate raw materials. This candidate is then responsible for entering material into vials. The three step process is formulate, fill, and finish, so their role is critical in making sure the recipe is accurate.

Day to day:

The morning starts the same way - meet as a team to discuss what is happening that day. As an entry level candidate while in training, they will need to pull materials, clean, and other things to support the fill. The job requires a lot of cleaning. LSNE is an ISO 5 environment so they perform daily and weekly cleaning. Spend probably 60% of their time on the manufacturing floor and 40% of the time they will be pulling materials to support a fill, disposing of trash and other waste, and training in Master Control which is the system where SOPs are stored. When this individual is media fill qualified, they will participate in the fill.

The formulation, fill, finish process starts when a customer gives the formulation team a "recipe" to follow. The formulation team will formulate the raw materials, then the manufacturing techs help with sterile filtration. They will assist with running the fill machine - adding vials to the vial washer and taking vials off on the other end of the line (looks like a conveyor belt). There will be 4 manufacturing techs in the fill room loading and unloading the fill machine and then loading the lyophilizer (lyo for short). If the fill is a liquid end product, there will be manufacturing techs in the capping room assisting with that process.
