AI Foundations for Educators
About the course:
This course introduces educators to the foundational concepts, ethical considerations, and instructional practices needed to integrate artificial intelligence effectively and responsibly in teaching and learning environments.
Participants begin by developing a clear understanding of what AI is—and what it is not—by distinguishing AI systems from traditional computer programs and exploring the types of AI most commonly embedded in classroom tools. Building on this understanding, the credential focuses on ethical awareness and responsible use. Educators will learn to identify key risks associated with AI in education, including bias, data privacy, and misinformation, and learn how these challenges can impact student learning and equity. Learners will also explore the components of effective AI guidelines and learn how to design and communicate shared expectations that promote transparency, student agency, and responsible engagement with AI technologies.
Finally, educators will engage in applied decision-making through realistic classroom scenarios. They analyze student AI use, identify instructional and equity considerations, and practice making informed choices in situations where expectations may be unclear or still evolving.
