Description
This will be a full-time 100% career position in the Department of Neurosurgery in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Under the supervision of a Principal Investigator, you will assist and facilitate animal experiments. Training will be a continuous feature of this position. Specifically, you will assist in conducting animal based experiments in traumatic brain injury. Duties include, but are not limited to, rodent surgical techniques, rodent behavioral testing, immunohistochemistry, mitochondrial isolation, tissue preservation, tissue slicing and processing, microscopy, data analysis and functional assessments. You will assist in ordering laboratory equipment and supplies and maintaining stock solutions. This researcher will also be working on innovative research and as such will learn new techniques as they apply to emerging projects and teach other research personnel as necessary. Administrative work will be required, including maintenance of records, approval of protocols, laboratory maintenance, and scheduling of experiments. You are expected follow all laboratory safety practices and in addition, you will train volunteers and assist with and maintain ARC protocols. Pay Range: $23.82 - $28.35 Hourly

Qualifications
All Required: 1. Must have prior experience in administration. 2. Must have prior experience and expertise in writing and composition of manuscripts. 3. Previous experience in or ability to learn human experiments. 4. Previous experience in or ability to learn small-animal surgery and laboratory techniques. 5. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques as needed for ongoing and developing projects. 6. Ability to complete, submit, and obtain approval for animal protocols. 7. Ability to order supplies, track expenditures for supplies, lab maintenance, telephones, and other recurring expenses; responsible for general maintenance upkeep of laboratory equipment; train new personnel in the use of laboratory equipment; ensure laboratory is in compliance with various safety requirements, supervision of student lab helpers. 8. Maintain accurate records of experiments and results both in writing and computerized database. 9. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with great organizational skills 10. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and administrators. 11. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. 12. General knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures.
