The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) Wastewater Engineering Design Section is currently seeking an Assistant Engineer who is a motivated, energetic, team player with experience in the design of municipal wastewater facilities.

This individual will lead and support multi-discipline engineering design teams for upgrades and rehabilitation of EBMUD's leading-edge wastewater and recycled water facilities for projects ranging up to approximately $15M. Projects may include waste-to-renewable-energy facilities and treatment, and pumping station and collection system upgrades as part of EBMUD's Wastewater Capital Improvements Program, budgeted at $395M over the next five years.

The most competitive candidates will possess significant knowledge of wastewater and recycled water design and engineering principles; wastewater pump stations and pipeline rehabilitation methods; system startup and testing for these facilities; a general understanding of wastewater treatment plant operations and regulations; pipe, open channel, and pumping system hydraulics; and project management principles and practices.

The ideal candidate's experience will include success in working on multi-discipline wastewater engineering projects; conducting engineering studies; preparing engineering designs including contract documents for bidding (plans and specifications); providing technical assistance during construction, startup, and testing; and preparing and delivering technical reports and presentations with excellent communication/interpersonal skills.

Flexible/hybrid work from home schedule may be available for some positions in this job classification.

The salary range is $11,214 per month increasing to $11,775, $12,364, $12,982 and $13,631 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements

1. A bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum accredited by ABET or a California Engineer in Training Certificate.

2. Two years* of professional civil, electrical, mechanical, control systems, geotechnical, sanitary, or structural engineering experience, at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's Junior Engineer classification, after obtaining the education outlined above.

3. Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

*An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience

The Selection Process

1. Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, with those candidates receiving a passing score to be invited to a panel interview.

4. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
