The opportunity

The Procurement Contract specialist - Operational services will be a member of the Global Procurement team within Abbott. This position will: (1) serve as a central point of contact and key driver of vendor Master Service Agreements (MSA) and Statements of Work (SOW) within the Indirect Procurement organization; (2) act as the Procurement team liaison for the supplier contract processes, submission reviews, and approvals; (3) educate company personnel on legal language and best practices associated with indirect material and service contracts; and (4) provide assistance in drafting and reviewing other types of contracts as needed.

The Procurement Contracts Specialist will maintain positive relations with the Corporate Legal team, outside attorneys and professionals, and supplier representatives as directed. The Contracts Specialist will take action to enhance cross-functional coordination and expand internal communications within the company.

Main responsibilities
  • Prepare and negotiate strategic Indirect material and service contracts with an emphasis on global logistics contracts.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for input on contractual language from internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contract language to address deviations from standard contracting positions and memorialize deal-specific terms and conditions in the contract.
  • Coordinate review of proposed contract changes with the appropriate corporate function or subject matter expert ( i.e., legal, insurance, tax, audit) .
  • Manage and maintain vendor contracting documents across a portfolio of vendor relationships.
  • Identify training needs and assist in development and presentation of training and education relating to legal contracting requirements and company policy developments.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with: Abbott businesses, its people, products, facilities, customers, and competitors and use this knowledge to provide guidance and recommendations to Abbott's businesses and stakeholders.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive global strategy and governance framework for this category for the Freight Audit and Payment category.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive strategic sourcing plans for the Freight Audit and Payment category worldwide, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives across all regions and business units.
  • Manage the end-to-end sourcing process for the category globally, including developing RFI/RFP documents, evaluating bids, conducting supplier negotiations, and making final supplier selection decisions.
  • Negotiate favorable contract terms and conditions with preferred global suppliers, leveraging market knowledge and strong negotiation skills to secure the best value for the organization worldwide.
  • Implement robust global supplier performance management processes, conducting regular reviews, addressing any issues or concerns, and ensuring suppliers meet agreed-upon service levels and key performance indicators (KPIs) across all regions.
  • Collaborate and coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams, such as logistics operations, finance, and legal, to ensure seamless category management and alignment across the organization globally.
Logistics Category Support:
  • Serve as the main point of contact and subject matter expert within the team, providing strategic sourcing support to other logistics categories, including Air Freight, Ocean Freight, and Warehousing.
  • Leverage advanced sourcing optimization tools, such as Jaggaer, to efficiently set up and manage complex sourcing events for these categories, ensuring a structured and streamlined process.
  • Create and analyze various sourcing scenarios, performing in-depth analytical support, such as spend analysis, market research, and cost modeling, to inform strategic sourcing decisions.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
Experience/Background:
  • 7+ year demonstrated experience with and knowledge of standard commercial contracting.
  • Solid experience working on logistics, MRO and Facility services.
  • Experience in Logistics-related contracts is strongly preferred.

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 - $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
