HJF is seeking a Finite Element Analysis (FEA)/Heat Transfer Computational Research Scientist II to support the Biotechnology High-Performance Computing Software Applications Institute ( BHSAI ). The mission of the BHSAI is to perform interdisciplinary research, combining physical, computational, and life-science research, to improve the efficiency and efficacy in the development of militarily relevant medical products for Force Health Protection.

This position is focused on the analysis of experimental data and development of FEA models of heat transfer in the human body. Mainly works performing independent research in a focused problem area, supervises projects and investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities

  • Formulates research projects, develops innovative approaches, designs and implements experimental protocols related to computational models for heating and cooling of the human body.
  • Develops necessary new technologies and protocols. In particular, the physics needed to capture the important phenomena that regulates the heating and cooling of the human body.
  • Continuously surveys the scientific literature to generate novel ideas and advance projects and programs. Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data and model outputs.
  • Prepare research proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • Present research methods and findings at appropriate meetings and scientific conferences.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.


Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Doctoral Degree in Engineering, Computational Physics, Mathematics or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience (post doctorate degree) required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Research experience in heating and cooling injury is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing heat transfer FEA models is required.
  • Experience in developing models for animal models or humans is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • Must have a publication track record.


Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
