Summary

Experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy
industry as an Apprentice Lineperson for our Overhead/Underground lines department for our Long Island New York territory.
Apprentice Linepersons perform all activities relating to Overhead/Underground Distribution and Transmission line construction and maintenance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of service in the public utility business requires off schedule or overtime work hours.
  • The Training Program will be conducted initially at any or all of the reporting locations in the department.
  • Apprentices will be rotated between locations periodically during the first two years as workload and training requirements dictate.
  • Apprentices who successfully complete the entire training program will be advanced to the classification of Lineman/ Linewoman First Class.
  • Trainees will progress in accordance with the Apprentice Line worker Training Program. Transfers will be made in accordance with Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Seniority.
  • In addition to possessing the qualifications for this vacancy, candidates selected will be expected to work overtime in accordance with the Departmental requirements and to participate in the Company's Emergency Restoration Program as may be required.
  • Candidates selected for this classification will be required to participate in the federally mandated drug and alcohol testing program prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.

Job Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid US driver's license with a satisfactory driver history.
  • Able to qualify for an Interstate Class A Commercial Driver's License at time of hire. (To learn more go to: https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/cdl10sec01.pdf but be sure to specify CDL type as Class A (Interstate).
  • Successfully complete all training and progressed to the top step of the First Class Lineperson classification.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Deal with problems involving several variables from standardized situations.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Pass a screening exam that includes physical aptitude tests, including a 2-day climbing wood poles test.
