Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. Permian saw significant growth in 2021 with the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc. in January 2021 and the addition of Shell's Permian acreage in December 2021. At year-end, the company held approximately 1.5 million net acres in the Permian Basin.

Net production for the Permian in 2022 was 461 MBOED.

Description

If you are selected as the Completions Engineer, you will report directly to the Completions Engineering Supervisor supporting the Delaware Basin. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, funding, and delivery of stimulation programs within the Delaware play. The position will interact closely with local Completion Engineers, Drilling Engineers, Production Engineers, Reservoir Engineers, Geologists, Field Operations, and global company experts, and have ample opportunity to work on innovative and creative projects.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Manage multiple projects in various phases of development while also providing support to Field Operations during job execution
  • Generate programs, procedures, and cost estimates based on the approved scope
  • Participate in risk assessment processes, as required
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies and services
  • Evaluate completion designs for mechanical integrity and ensure they meet all corporate and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure standard engineering practices & corporate processes are rigorously followed
  • Ensure documentation of work activity, costs, and lessons are accurately captured
  • Develop and maintain metrics that will foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Communicate cost variance relative to AFE and programmed activity on a regular basis
  • Document deviations from job scope and track recommendations for future
  • Maintain communication with an integrated team to ensure decisions are made in an effective and timely manner
  • Lead technical improvement projects, as agreed upon with Supervisor
  • Elevate decisions and issues to Leadership team, in a timely manner
  • Lead After Action Reviews that capture lessons learned and improvement opportunities
  • Generate program lookback documentation
  • Participate in industry forums to gather benchmarking data and best practices
  • Collaborate with Completion Engineers in other ConocoPhillips business unit to share knowledge and build local leading practices
Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, other related business field, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
  • Current/valid drivers license
  • 3+ years of experience in completions, drilling, and/or well intervention
Preferred:
  • 3+ years of experience supporting horizontal completions operations in unconventional plays
  • 1+ years of experience with programming and supporting plug drill out activities
  • 1+ years of experience with mentorship, coaching and informal leadership
  • Well-developed communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Continuous learner that accepts feedback and is willing to ask for help
  • Innovative thinking, strong problem solving, proactive planning, and organizational skills
  • Strong commitment to continuous improvement, safety & environmental stewardship, and business ethics
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
