Job Title: Budget Specialist


Job Description

The Budget Specialist role is a vital part of the Accounting & Finance Team, working closely with the Financial Analyst and Grants team. The position offers a full-time schedule of Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, totaling 35 hours per week with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. You will provide technical and financial support services, assisting with budget preparation for grant applications and business projects. This role requires knowledge of accounting, budgeting, financial trend analysis, and reporting.


Responsibilities

  • Develop initial budget templates for new, renewal, or revised budgets.
  • Review internal budgets for approval, ensuring they include projections of staff allocations, direct costs, occupancy allocations, and indirect costs according to OMB guidelines.
  • Coordinate with Department Heads and Program staff to balance internal budgets before submitting them for final review.
  • Conduct budget analysis to prepare for budget revisions.
  • Formulate budget projections and recommend adjustments to Program Managers.
  • Complete budget forms for grant applications, budget revisions, and other funding requests.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in budget management, analysis, and planning.
  • Experience working with grants and new funding opportunities.
  • Ability to develop, revise, and create new budgets.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting functions according to GAAP.
  • Proficiency in verifying budget costs.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and macros.
  • Ability to integrate writing with financial reports.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business preferred.
  • Two years of related accounting experience in a nonprofit agency required.
  • Three years of analytical and problem-solving experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State funding regulations preferred.
  • Understanding of program operations, budgeting, and financial management preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite required.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office setting, offering a balanced work/life environment. The role utilizes ERP systems, specifically Blackbaud, and requires adherence to confidentiality standards.
