Actalent is looking for a Mechanical Drafter to join our client, a global leader in steam generators!
Job Description
The Mechanical Drafter is responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D general arrangement drawings. This role involves compiling design and layout information into engineering drawings that assist suppliers in creating fabrication drawings, as well as generating fabrication and field erection drawings. Adaptability to alternate between tasks is essential to manage peak workload demands.
Responsibilities
- Revise existing design standards and guideline drawings.
- Create new design standards and guideline drawings as applicable.
- Develop and update current AutoCAD design standards and guideline templates.
- Plan, prepare, and check detail drawings of HRSG components using information from multiple sources.
- Enter HRSG casing and coil design data into a database exchange XML format to support fabrication drawing creation.
- Determine applicable standards and confirm that details and designs comply with standards, guidelines, and customer specifications.
- Collaborate with the Structural Engineering department and other drafting disciplines to resolve layout challenges.
- Coordinate with Layout Designer Coordinator and Structural Engineer to maximize constructability of field erected equipment.
- Ensure timely completion of efficient, custom-designed equipment in collaboration with the Layout Design Coordinator.
- Provide current design information to internal departments, external customers, and fabrication subcontractors using the document management system and other tools as necessary.
- Document the status of assigned project deliverables through routine updates of the project status report and company schedule.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
- Working knowledge of AISC and other international standard structural shapes and AWS weld symbols.
- Familiarity with Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCAD platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows and standard Office Suite applications.
- Expertise in both 2D and 3D CAD design.
- Ability to create engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Capability to work in a team setting and adapt to evolving project and procedural changes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical or vocational school education, junior college or two-year college training preferred.
- Certificate is acceptable, degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of CAD design experience, including school.
Work Environment
The position is based in an office environment with a large 'pit' area where over 50 drafters work collaboratively.
