Job Title: Automation Scientist
Job DescriptionThe Automation Scientist in Non-Clinical Drug Safety will play a critical role in driving the implementation of automated workflows to support pre-clinical studies. This is a 1-year contract position located in West Point. The role requires a thorough understanding of the principles and concepts of various biology assays related to method development and sample testing using diverse liquid handlers and laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will contribute to optimizing methods with laboratory equipment and automation and assist in sample preparation as needed.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and drive the design, planning, and execution of robust automation strategies to support the Non-Clinical Drug Safety group.
- Automate generic immunoassay methods using hybrid automation (Starlet & integrated robotics platform).
- Automate cell culture maintenance and cell-based assays.
- Work with multiple stakeholders and end users to troubleshoot errors, maintain, and update instruments.
- Collaborate with scientists in automation workflows and platforms to integrate all workflows efficiently.
- Manage data integrity through automated processes.
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend novel and cutting-edge automation strategies.
- Work jointly with department members, IT, and cross-functional teams to implement automation workflows, support lab instrumentation and robotic platforms, and develop novel data handling and analysis workflows.
Essential Skills
- Experience with liquid handling systems.
- Experience with integrated robotic system schedulers.
- Ability to generate, evaluate, and understand scientific data generated on robotic platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automated Sciences, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent.
- Experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotech company and/or laboratory experience.
- Experience implementing novel automation workflows.
- Electro-Mechanical design/assembly skills.
- Use of electronic laboratory notebooks.
Work Environment
This is a lab-based role, requiring onsite full-time work. The position offers 10 days of PTO and 14 holidays. It is a long-term, open-ended opportunity where you will be instrumental in setting up automation of lab processes.
