Job Title: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician who will play a crucial role in our laboratory operations. This position involves handling and processing specimens, performing test analyses, and maintaining records of patient results. The ideal candidate will contribute to high-quality patient care through meticulous laboratory practices and quality control procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
  • Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in-house.
  • Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.
  • Perform specimen analysis of Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.
  • Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment, performing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance.
  • Adhere to quality control policies, document all QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.
  • Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results annually.
  • Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials.
  • Conduct microscopic examination of urinary sediment and record results accurately.
  • Identify and address problems that may affect test performance or reporting of results.
  • Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance standards.
  • Verify all critical results and ensure accurate follow-up documentation.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure viability before use in patient testing.
  • Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed.
  • Restock the laboratory area as necessary.
  • Process and chart in-house and incoming results in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or AMT.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience preferred, but not required.
  • Generalist knowledge in CLIA and medical technology.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program with an associate degree.
  • ASCP/AMT Certification is required.

Work Environment

The position offers a weekday schedule from Monday to Friday, with shifts starting between 7am-9am and ending between 3:30pm-5:30pm. Enjoy a work-life balance with no weekend or night shifts. The role involves managing a diverse team of up to 26 people, rotating between different locations on occasion. Flexibility to travel to other locations as needed is required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Suffolk, Virginia.
