Job Description

As a Transmission Line Designer, you will be an integral part of the transmission department, contributing to the drafting of construction drawings for transmission line projects. You will work under the guidance of experienced designers, utilizing your skills to support critical engineering initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Update plan and profile sheets and Transmission Geographic Information Systems (TGIS) when transmission lines are updated in the field.
- Utilize Microstation and ArcGIS daily to produce high-quality work.
- Assist Transmission Line Engineers in preparing sheet sets for new transmission lines.
- Draft and detail drawings for medium to high-voltage electrical transmission lines with assistance from higher-level graphics technicians.
- Draft and detail transmission drawings, including transmission line plans and profiles, transmission structure analysis, detailed designs, transmission structure foundations, and transmission structure anchor details.
- Perform routine assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
- Produce complete plans from verbal or written descriptions provided by designers.
- Apply basic formulas, principles, and practices in your drafting work.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Microstation, AutoCAD, and PLS-CADD for transmission line design.
- Zero to five years of experience drafting physical layouts, equipment layouts, plan views, elevation views, and section views.
- Zero to five years of drafting experience using Microstation, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, or PLS-POLE.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology.
- Equivalent experience and/or education in relevant fields.
Work Environment
The office environment is quiet and conducive to focused work, located in an engineering office. Designers will share a cubicle with another designer, often a more senior colleague, promoting a collaborative atmosphere. The dress code is business casual, and teamwork is highly encouraged and practiced frequently.
