Job Title: Medical Lab Technician IV - Birmingham
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Lab Technician IV to join our team in Birmingham. In this role, you will be responsible for performing both routine and complex technical procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory tests. Your work will contribute significantly to the delivery of quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with the processing of specimens when needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements.
- Minimum 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
- At least 1 year of microbiology testing experience.
- Experience with Microbiology testing/department such as plate reading and gram staining.
- Experience with Cerner or Epic systems.
- ASCP or AMT certification may be required.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- State Medical Technologist license may be required.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
Work Environment
You will be working in a hospital core laboratory setting. The lab operates during the 1st shift from 5:00 am to 1:30 am, Monday through Friday. The environment is dynamic and requires adaptability, particularly as the team is currently short-staffed. Training will be provided for reading plates, performing gram stains, and other necessary setups.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
