Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Lab Scientist I to join our team and contribute to quality patient care through precise laboratory testing. The successful candidate will perform routine and complex technical procedures while ensuring proper functionality of laboratory instrumentation.
Responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
- MT, MLS, CLS certification as a generalist - ASCP or AMT.
- 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience in Core Lab or Hospital setting, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, and urinalysis.
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- State Medical Technologist license may be required.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
- Experience with blood bank is a plus.
- Experience with the person would be nice but not required.
Work Environment
The position is located in Birmingham in a hospital setting. You will work within the Core Lab on a 7 on/7 off schedule from Wednesday to Tuesday, 05:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The environment is equipped with modern laboratory technologies and requires adherence to safety protocols, including appropriate personal protective equipment.
