The Group Director, Walmart Energy - Operations will lead the performance and optimization of Walmart's operating energy assets across the U.S., ensuring they deliver strong, consistent value for the business. You will oversee the systems, partners, and insights that power our energy infrastructure, shaping how Walmart invests in and operates its multi-billion-dollar energy portfolio. In this role, you will help advance Walmart's growth, resiliency, and decarbonization goals-driving meaningful impact across our business, our customers, and the communities we serve.
You will join the Walmart Energy team, a strategic and operational organization responsible for shaping Walmart's energy future across four pillars: Strengthening the Grid, Investing in Our Assets, Influencing Energy Policy, and Creating Customer Solutions. Our team manages one of the largest and most distributed energy footprints in the U.S., with rapidly growing onsite solar and storage deployments, a national EV charging network, a sophisticated mix of offsite energy investments, and expanding retail energy capabilities.
Our Operations team ensures that the assets and contracts we deploy deliver sustained financial, operational, and resiliency benefits. This group operates at the intersection of technology, facilities, finance, utilities, and energy markets-working daily to ensure reliability, reduce energy costs, and translate performance insights into future commercial opportunities.
This is an onsite role based at our Home Office campus in Bentonville, Arkansas; we are not considering remote applicants, but a full relocation package is available.

The annual salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $320,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field and 7 years' experience in utility operations or related area OR 9 years' experience in utility operations or related area.

What you'll do...
- Strategic & Operational Leadership of Energy Assets
- Lead the operational performance of Walmart's energy assets-including onsite solar, storage, microgrids, EV charging, generators, offsite PPAs, equity investments, and retail energy positions
- Establish scalable asset management processes and ensure operational insights inform contracting, investment decisions, and long-term lifecycle planning
- Analyze cost drivers, performance trends, and operational processes to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement
- Energy Cost Management, Market Strategy & Portfolio Optimization
- Manage strategies to optimize electricity and gas spend in deregulated power markets, including hedging, forward purchasing, and risk-mitigation approaches that reduce volatility and cost exposure
- Oversee Walmart's in-house energy retailer, ensuring disciplined market operations, accurate forecasting, and cost-effective supply strategies aligned with enterprise load profiles
- Develop and execute strategies to risk-manage and optimize Walmart's comprehensive energy portfolio, spanning onsite assets, offsite PPAs, retail energy positions, and market-based procurement
- Lead utility bill management across electricity, gas, and water-ensuring billing accuracy, capturing credits and rebates, and supporting proactive cost reduction
- Vendor, Partner & Operational Ecosystem Management
- Manage EPCs, O&M partners, technology vendors, utilities, and retail energy suppliers, driving accountability for uptime, SLAs, and performance guarantees
- Identify operational improvements, streamline processes, and enhance reliability and value across the partner ecosystem
- Data, Technology & Analytics
- Oversee data governance and integration across submetering, billing, and asset performance systems to ensure accurate reporting, forecasting, and anomaly detection
- Partner with our Energy data team and Global Tech to leverage automation, AI, and analytics that improve real-time decision-making, portfolio visibility, and asset optimization
- Proven experience in energy asset operations or portfolio management, ideally across onsite generation, storage, microgrids, EV charging, or retail/utility markets
- Strong analytical and financial skills with the ability to assess performance, evaluate economics, and drive data-informed decisions
- Expertise managing complex vendor and partner ecosystems, with a track record of improving reliability, cost, and performance
- Technical fluency in energy monitoring systems, billing workflows, and power market fundamentals
- Ability to design scalable processes and operational frameworks for a fast-growing, multi-technology asset base
- Exceptional communication and cross-functional leadership, with experience influencing diverse stakeholders across operations, tech, finance, and external partners
