Job Description
The Clinical Research Laboratory Manager will oversee the setup and execution of Phase 1 projects with local laboratory facilities, ensuring efficient data transfer to sponsors. This role involves engaging and preparing laboratory staff for new studies, collaborating with investigators to develop research protocols, and providing technical expertise.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight for project setup and data transfer to sponsors.
- Engage laboratory staff in preparation for new studies, discussing protocols, lab manuals, and specific lab needs.
- Work closely with investigators to understand project requirements and contribute to the development of lab-specific research protocols.
- Provide leadership and oversight for research phlebotomy, specimen processing, and send-outs across multiple locations.
- Interview, hire, and supervise lab staff, overseeing onboarding, training, and addressing personnel issues in coordination with site managers.
- Review and approve timecards, including PTO requests, in a timely manner.
- Conduct performance evaluations for both current team members and new hires.
- Travel on-site as needed to meet with staff, address quality and safety concerns, and provide hands-on training.
- Standardize workflow across all locations to foster collaboration and consistency in research practices.
- Research, purchase, and track laboratory equipment for all sites as part of inventory management.
- Identify and implement quality and productivity-related initiatives.
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing temporarily to cover personnel on leave or designate coverage based on urgency and patient volume.
- Oversee quality assurance, including preparing for audits and inspections and maintaining records.
- Review lab manuals and verify specimen collection methods, blood draw tubes, and instrumentation needed for studies.
- Perform quality control of data transfers to sponsors.
- Ensure all laboratory activities adhere to regulatory requirements, including Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and other relevant guidelines.
- Lead and inspire a team of laboratory professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in science or related field.
- Phlebotomy certification (CPT or similar) required.
- Five or more years of phlebotomy and specimen processing supervisor experience with demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Experience hiring, leading, and training a phlebotomy team.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements for clinical research laboratories, including GLP.
- National Certification (NCCT or ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
- Clinical Research experience in Phase I-III preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with investigators, sponsors, clinicians, and other stakeholders to achieve common research goals.
The position is office-based with significant travel requirements, especially during the onboarding stage. Higher travel frequency of 2-3 days per week is anticipated initially to familiarize with site operations, which will reduce after onboarding. Interoffice travel may be required, with the use of a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement available.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chandler, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.00/hr.
