Job Title: Electrical Designer
Job Description
We are seeking a full-time Electrical Designer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing electrical power distribution, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems for commercial and industrial facilities. Our projects span throughout the southwestern United States, providing a challenging and rewarding work environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare biddable Construction Documents (Plans and Technical Specifications) from conception/study phase to construction management phase.
- Create, read, and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Compute electrical calculations including loads/services, panel schedules, short circuit currents/fault currents, voltage drop, conduit and conductor sizing, VFD harmonics, and backup generators.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors, manufacturers, clients, and design team members from other engineering disciplines.
- Perform site visits to gather information to start and complete designs.
- Prepare engineering memos, reports, and facility assessments/evaluations using technical writing techniques and grammar.
- Prepare budgetary cost estimates.
- Coordinate with local electric service providers to review preliminary designs.
- Coordinate with local authorities having jurisdiction regarding electrical building permit submittals, design reviews, and address any comments.
- Participate in or facilitate project meetings.
- Perform review of construction documents designed by others including junior staff at various stages of completion for quality and content.
- Assist in the development and management of entry level and junior level staff.
- Provide post-design support to construction administration personnel on an as-needed basis.
Essential Skills
- At least 5-7 years of experience in downstream power distribution design including single/one line diagrams, load calculations, conduit/wire sizing, short circuit current/fault current calculations, generator sizing.
- Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD including ability to rotate base files, insert and link Excel spreadsheets, create and utilize title blocks and symbols, read electrical plan layouts, create PDFs, and maintain proper CAD etiquette.
- Knowledge in Arc Flash Study.
- Understanding of electrical plans and load calculations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, 365, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Bluebeam or other PDF software.
- Knowledge of NFPA 820, NFPA 30, UL-508A, UL-698 and related codes/standards is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of SKM software to prepare arc flash hazard studies is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of AGI32 photometric lighting software is preferred but not required.

The position primarily involves working in the office with a hybrid work schedule that offers flexibility. You will be part of a dedicated team comprising four engineering professionals and two construction experts. We offer a supportive environment with compensation for schooling, EIT or PE exam, or training materials.
