Job Title: Controls Engineer


Job Description

As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, designing, programming, and implementing PLC/HMI and/or PC-based control systems. This role encompasses system design, PLC programming, PC programming (.Net), HMI programming, robot programming, machine vision, system commissioning, and industrial communication network implementation and installation. You will need to understand the project's scope, goals, and technical requirements, balancing client needs and expectations with the project budget and schedule to ensure technical project success.


Responsibilities

  • Design control systems through interpretation of customer-supplied control descriptions, interviews with clients and owners, and analysis of system mechanical requirements.
  • Develop and program control systems for automated equipment, including PLCs, servo motion, robotics, and machine vision.
  • Write structured, well-documented, and bug-free programs aligned with company standards.
  • Design intuitive and aesthetically pleasing HMI interfaces.
  • Collaborate with project team members to share programming responsibilities as needed.
  • Design software to support thorough, systematic, in-house testing prior to on-site commissioning.
  • Conduct thorough testing of system software before client exposure.
  • Interface with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Commission machines to meet customer quality and cycle time requirements, including testing and on-site startup.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with HMI, PLC, automation, and programming.
  • Applicable engineering degree and experience; BS in engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with automated equipment.
  • Highly competent to expert-level PLC and PC programming skills.
  • Ability to write complete PLC programs for Rockwell, Beckhoff, and/or Siemens.
  • Experience with industrial robots such as Fanuc, UR, ABB.
  • Experience with AC and Servo motion control programming, bar-code and RFID application, robotics, software design, machine vision, and Siemens PLC.

  • Experience with data logging.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Ability to multitask and handle diverse assignments concurrently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal oversight.
  • Proficiency in working with clients and coworkers.
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%, typically 1-2 weeks per quarter.
