Job Title: Electrical Engineer


Job Description

As an Electrical Engineer, you will perform overall project electrical design with guidance from the Project Manager and management regarding systems and requirements. You will also provide direction to team members for project development and electrical design of all systems.


Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical design calculations including low/medium voltage power distribution systems, lighting, security/fire systems, and data/telecommunications systems.
  • Conduct site investigations to gather necessary data.
  • Coordinate project assignments with other Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers.
  • Review drawings supplied by vendors, clients, engineers, and architects, and recommend necessary changes.
  • Research code issues and work with City, State, and County officials.
  • Explore design options and document findings.
  • Create circuiting for power and lighting plans, one-line diagrams, and electrical room layouts.
  • Perform load calculations and complete panel schedules for power and lighting plans.
  • Execute voltage drop, short circuit, and arc fault calculations.
  • Specify appropriate luminaires and perform lighting calculations.
  • Design low voltage and telecommunication systems and infrastructure.
  • Take written and verbal instructions/directions effectively.
  • Assign drafting tasks to REVIT/CAD Operators, manage workloads, and estimate timelines for completion to meet project deadlines.
  • Attend kick-off and design review meetings and interact with clients.
  • Manage the construction administration phase of projects.
  • Estimate hours for tasks to assist in resource allocation.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Autodesk REVIT/AutoCAD.
  • Advanced knowledge of planning electrical power and distribution systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Title 24 requirements and completing forms.
  • Ability to interpret Architectural and Engineering documents.
  • Proficient in lighting calculations with computerized software.
  • Skilled in advanced software-based short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
  • Capability to work on several projects simultaneously, prioritize work, and delegate tasks.
  • Ability to work within time schedules and project budgets, managing support staff to complete tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide and follow written and verbal directions/instructions.
  • Ability to write and edit project specifications.
  • Advanced understanding of Building Codes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Four years of firsthand experience in the design of all phases of power distribution, standby generation, lighting, and auxiliary systems.
  • Four years of experience with word processing and spreadsheet software.

Work Environment

This position involves working in an office setting as well as visiting work sites when necessary. The role requires flexibility to work within project deadlines and budgets while managing tasks effectively.
