We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to lead device development across mechanical design, electrical design, and firmware development. This role will oversee a multidisciplinary engineering team to drive the development of cutting-edge devices from concept to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in embedded systems, hardware development, and cross-functional leadership to ensure product innovation, reliability, and scalability.

Compensation: $137,990.00 to $172,200.00

Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the engineering roadmap for device development, aligning with business objectives.
- Lead and mentor mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineering teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Establish and optimize development processes, tools, and best practices to improve efficiency and quality.
- Work closely with product management, manufacturing, and operations to deliver high-performance, cost-effective, and scalable products.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration between design, testing, and production teams.
- Ensure integration of mechanical, electrical, and firmware components for optimal device performance.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, materials, and manufacturing techniques to enhance product design.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and certifications (e.g., FCC, CE, UL).
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis for continuous improvement.
- Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Track and report on project milestones and risks.
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and external partners.
- Assist in quality assurance and testing processes to ensure product reliability.
- Develops and implements strategic plans and objectives for the department/sub-function in an effective and innovative fashion
- Understands the business and can put together comprehensive department solutions
- Works with other leaders to establish strategic plans and works towards achieving them
- Provides leadership and direction to managers in their respective division/department
- Sees to department staffing needs (e.g. interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.)
- Participates in budget development and monitoring of expenses
- Level of signing authority established by company policy/guidelines
- Proven expertise in mechanical design, PCB design, and embedded firmware development.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and DFT (Design for Testability).
- Experience with embedded systems architecture, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks), PCB design tools (Altium), and firmware development tools.
- Strong understanding of IoT connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, LoRa, Zigbee, etc.) and power management.
- Experience with regulatory compliance testing and industry standards.
- Familiarity with cloud integration, edge computing, and cybersecurity for IoT devices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- 10+ years of experience in hardware and embedded systems development, with at least 5+ years in an engineering leadership role.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
