Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Lab Assistant I to support tissue processing for histological analysis (including confocal imaging), protein and neurotransmitter assays (ELISAs, Western blots), small animal breeding and surgeries, and lab maintenance. The research lab studies the role of the cardiac nervous system in heart disease, focusing on how the autonomic nervous system contributes to arrhythmias. We use in-vivo electrophysiology, molecular and histological techniques, single-cell RNA sequencing, and physiological data from both animal models (mouse and porcine) and humans. Responsibilities also include animal procurement, monitoring post-procedures, genotyping, data analysis, and ordering supplies.

Hourly range:$19.90-$23.04

Job Qualifications
Qualifications

Required:
  • Ability to work on routine assignments with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records
  • Skills and prior experience in preparing buffers, solutions and reagents
  • Knowledge and prior experience in tissue preparation and specimen handling
  • Skills in basic computer use, Microsoft excel, office, powerpoint
  • Knowledge of PRISM, STATA
  • Previous wet lab experience
  • Responsible, reliable, can meet deadlines
Preferred:
  • BS in biochemistry, physiology, biology, or equivalent.
  • Expertise in performing ELISAS
  • Expertise in basic tissue processing and immunohistochemical techniques
  • Ability to peform wesern blots and qPCR
  • Familiarity with performing surgical and technical procedures in small and large animals
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others
