Description
As the Outpatient Coding Auditor, you will be instrumental in maintaining coding accuracy and compliance within our outpatient services. Reporting to the Director of Medical Coding, your primary responsibilities include conducting rigorous departmental and interdepartmental coding audits to ensure adherence to Federal and State regulations and identify coding discrepancies in Acute Care outpatient services.

As the Outpatient Coding Auditor, you will be instrumental in maintaining coding accuracy and compliance within our outpatient services. Reporting to the Director of Medical Coding, your primary responsibilities include conducting rigorous departmental and interdepartmental coding audits to ensure adherence to Federal and State regulations and identify coding discrepancies in Acute Care outpatient services.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Conducting quality and CPT/APC payment reviews for outpatient services
- Auditing for documentation discrepancies, coding errors, and billing issues
- Providing feedback and educational support to outpatient coding staff and external departments
- Keeping up-to-date with outpatient coding guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Assisting in the development and enforcement of outpatient coding policies
- Engaging in ongoing education to stay current with coding and billing regulations
- Collaborating with cross-departmental teams to address outpatient coding inquiries
Job Qualifications
Qualifications
We're seeking a dedicated professional with:
- CCS certification (required); RHIA/RHIT preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of outpatient coding/auditing experience in an acute care hospital
- In-depth knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and outpatient regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with EPIC and 3M 360 Encompass software
- Strong analytical skills to assess and resolve outpatient coding system errors
- Ability to conduct coding education and training sessions effectively
- Excellent communication skills for interdepartmental collaboration
- Commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards
