We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Marine Preservation & Decking Technician to support U.S. Navy ship maintenance and repair projects, including aircraft carriers (CVNs). The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and be comfortable working with various tools and equipment in a hands-on, labor-intensive role.
Responsibilities- Install, repair, and maintain various marine decking systems such as tile, non-skid, and underlayment, ensuring proper adhesion and alignment according to NAVSEA standards.
- Perform paint and coating removal using mechanical and chemical methods, preparing surfaces for preservation, including cleaning, sanding, and blasting.
- Apply primers, sealants, and protective coatings as required.
- Install and repair thermal and acoustic insulation (lagging) on piping, bulkheads, and machinery, ensuring compliance with fire-retardant and safety specifications.
- Perform routine physical labor, moving materials, tools, and equipment, cleaning equipment, vehicles, machinery, and work areas.
- Operate various tools such as pneumatic, electric, and hand tools, and perform brush roll or hand brush painting.
- Transport, load, and unload materials, tools, and equipment on and off trucks and ships.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and experience working with various tools and equipment.
- Minimum 1–2 years in marine preservation, decking, or shipyard labor roles.
- Hands-on experience in decking installation and repair, surface preservation, lagging, and paint/coating removal in a shipyard or industrial marine environment.
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy standards and shipboard environments.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS access for Naval Air Station North Island (Coronado) and be a US Citizen.
- Current DBIDS holders will be given priority for starting.
- Experience as a lagger is a plus.

Work EnvironmentWork will be performed aboard USS AMERICA (LHA-6) at NBSD at Pier 13. The role involves a labor-intensive environment requiring manual handling and the use of various tools and equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of National City, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50/hr.
