Job Title: Substation Engineer


Job Description

This position is based in Oakland, CA, and requires frequent onsite presence. It is a W-2 contract role within the utilities, energy, and power systems industry. The role focuses on strategic planning, asset integration, and front-end implementation of substation projects.


Responsibilities

  • Support long-term substation planning aligned with the Integrated Grid Planning framework.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess substation capacity, reliability, and modernization needs.
  • Contribute to the development of substation strategies that support DER integration, electrification, and grid resilience.
  • Apply project management standards to ensure planning consistency and quality.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and provide technical input on substation planning scenarios.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in substation engineering or planning.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project coordination skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience with PG&E is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with PG&E standards.

Work Environment

The role may be remote, hybrid, or in-office, depending on project requirements and company policies.
