Job Title: Level 3 CNC MachinistJob Description

As a Level 3 CNC Machinist, you will work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction. You will support and comply with the company's Quality System, AS9100, Cardinal Rules of Quality, and Cardinal Rules of Safety. Your role involves executing the production schedule, ensuring materials and supplies meet production needs, and completing orders that meet quality standards in the required timeline. You will ensure machines run efficiently and operators follow work instructions and processes. Regular updates will be provided through PCC03 or other tools, and you will submit work orders to Maintenance. Process improvements are encouraged, and attendance at company meetings is required.

Responsibilities
  • Read and comply with work instructions, set up sheets, and checklists.
  • Enter production information into the ERP system on a timely basis.
  • Accurately record and report hours worked.
  • Complete Production Incident Reports for all red tags promptly and notify a Supervisor.
  • Complete all other work duties as assigned.
  • Operate 3-5 axis CNC machines and lathes to produce complex aerospace parts.
  • Complete complex setups on 3-5 axis machines and apply advanced blueprint and GD&T reading.
  • Edit programs and write simple programs to make tooling.
  • Troubleshoot complex parts.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Use overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings.
  • Confer with other personnel to resolve machining problems.
  • Clean and maintain machines and tools, and grind tools and accessories.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to operate 3-5 axis CNC machines and lathes with little or no assistance.
  • Advanced cross training flexibility including first part run and full machine recovery.
  • Ability to complete complex setups and apply advanced blueprint and GD&T reading.
  • Program editing and simple program writing for tooling.
  • Troubleshooting complex parts.
  • Typically 4-6 years of experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively before supervisors or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with all tools and equipment in a machine shop, including drill press, tool grinders, power saws, belt sanders, various measuring tools, shovel, broom, tape readers and punches.
  • Experience with horizontal and mainly vertical machines.

Work Environment

You will train on the 1st shift from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and then move to either the 2nd shift (12:15 pm to 8:45 pm, Monday to Friday) or the 3rd shift (8:15 pm to 4:45 am). The role involves working in a production floor environment with exposure to moderate noise, occasional mist, airborne particles, and other typical manufacturing elements. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including steel-toed boots, ear plugs, and safety glasses, with some provided by the company.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ontario, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $35.00/hr.
