Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Optical Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development and integration of high-power processing solutions across various technology areas. This role involves concept development, prototype design, integration, and testing of systems including high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, pulsed power systems, battery systems, high energy laser systems, space systems, and advanced sensors.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering staff and chief engineers to develop and integrate high-power processing solutions for diverse product lines.
  • Exercise considerable latitude for initiating and developing designs, techniques, and solutions to resolve advanced technical engineering problems with limited direction.
  • Demonstrate prior experience in improving legacy systems and developing new systems.
  • Lead firmware development projects, guide less experienced staff, and ensure technical milestones are met.
  • Give technical presentations and manage technical effort schedules.
  • Function in a leadership role for projects and provide direction and guidance to professional staff in technical efforts.
  • Formulate plans and coordinate solutions development and deployment, including documentation and presentations.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for firmware-related aspects of optical stabilization projects.
  • Represent the organization as a prime technical contact on projects.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline with relevant progressive engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • Experience designing and implementing real-time control algorithms on FPGAs for optical systems.
  • Experience performing simulation, validation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing of FPGA-based control systems.
  • Proficiency in developing HDL (VHDL or Verilog) and embedded C/C++ firmware using tools such as Xilinx Vivado and Vitis.
  • Ability to integrate control systems with sensors, actuators, and optical components.
  • Capability to optimize signal processing pipelines for low-latency, high-precision performance.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Customer-focused and able to formulate plans based on innovative designs to resolve complex technical engineering problems.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Skills in preparing and conducting detailed technical presentations and reviews.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended schedules as needed.

Work Environment

The role requires working in a dynamic and evolving project environment, utilizing advanced technologies and equipment. Some travel and extended work schedules may be necessary. The submission of a cover letter with a resume is desired. Open to relocation.

Compensation:$200000
