The Pharmacy Technician Specialist will be working in an office setting assisting with scheduling, answering phone calls, processing referrals, working through authorization and billing issues, and reconciling medication history. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys customer service, comfortable on the phone and prefers working in an office setting and has some prior knowledge of pharmacy and medical insurance processing.
Description
Coordinate with insurance companies, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and specialty pharmacies to resolve coverage issues
Initiate, submit, and track pharmacy prior authorizations for prescription medications
Monitor authorization status and follow up proactively to avoid treatment delays
Document authorization outcomes, approvals, denials, and appeals in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
Assist with appeal submissions by gathering clinical support and completing required payer forms
Educate patients on authorization status, coverage limitations, copay assistance programs, and next steps
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer policies, formularies, and authorization requirements

1 year of authorization experience in medication
Minimum 2 years pharmacy technician experience

Work Environment
Remote but local to San Diego - Would need to come into the office if having wifi problems/technical difficulties, etc. - driving distance to San Diego preferred
MUST HAVE OWN EQUIPMENT - strong wifi
8hr (x5) Shifts
M-F 8:00am-5:00pm
Duration: 13 week contract possibility for extension
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial pharmacy plans
Prior experience with medication appeals
High school diploma

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
