Job Title: Expert Level Calibration Technician


Job Description

The Expert Calibration Technician is tasked with conducting maintenance, calibrations, and repairs on a diverse range of technical instruments. These include equipment used in process, utility, and laboratory environments such as refrigerators, freezers, transmitters, monitors, incubators, centrifuges, autoclaves, pipettes, balances, and various pressure and temperature devices. Familiarity with computer-based calibration tracking systems (CMMS) is highly desirable. Reporting to a supervisory or management role, the technician will undertake assignments primarily in the San Diego area, with occasional travel up to 50%.


Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee calibrations, preventive maintenance, and equipment qualifications with accurate, compliant documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Ensure all work aligns with client-specific procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and manage project plans, including scheduling, resource allocation, and documentation.
  • Identify and implement value-added solutions for clients.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and act as a technical liaison.
  • Support proposal development and scope change documentation.
  • Promote and ensure adherence to safety protocols on all projects.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of calibration techniques across various environments.
  • Strong proficiency with CMMS platforms.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, GMP, GLP).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with electrical systems and safety practices.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on project profitability and client satisfaction.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics).
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience in metrology, instrumentation, or calibration.
  • Experience in FDA regulated environments is required.
  • Open to 8 years of technical experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations is a plus.
  • External certifications (e.g., ISA, ASQ) are preferred.

Work Environment

The position is based onsite in Sorrento Valley, with working hours from 6am to 2:30pm. The schedule may be slightly flexible after 3-4 weeks. The work environment is characterized by a family/team mentality spread across the US, with a strong reputation in the Pharma Industry, and offers longevity and growth opportunities.
