Job Description
Join a leading maritime engineering contractor specializing in systems engineering, shipboard modernization, and technical services across naval platforms. We urgently seek Marine Painters to support high-priority U.S. Navy corrosion mitigation and ship repair projects in San Diego. This immediate-start opportunity supports a large-scale Navy initiative with long-term impact on fleet readiness.
Responsibilities
- Perform painting, touch-ups, and preservation on shipboard structures.
- Conduct sanding, grinding, surface prepping, masking, chipping, and cleaning.
- Assist technicians with coating application and material handling.
- Work aboard ships, piers, dry docks, and industrial marine environments following strict safety protocols and NAVSEA standards.
- Complete assignments on schedule in a high-tempo environment.
Essential Skills
- Shipboard painting experience (2+ years preferred).
- Ability to perform preservation, coating, sanding, prepping, masking on Navy vessels.
- Understanding of marine coating processes, surface prep, grinding, sanding, masking, and cleanup activities.
- Ability to apply coatings, primers, and preservation materials inside ship tanks, bilges, voids, and other compartments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior shipyard, ship repair, or industrial/manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
- DBIDS access or ability to obtain immediately.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
- Must meet Navy base access requirements.
- Experience with marine coatings, confined space entry procedures, tank preservation, blasting, or ultra-high-pressure water jetting.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Firewatch or tank watch experience.
- OSHA-10 or OSHA-Shipyard certification.
- Experience working on CVNs, DDGs, LCS, or Amphib platforms.

Work Environment

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
