Marine Electrician Technician - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA

Job Description

The Marine Electrician will support the Field Installation Services organization on board US Navy ships by installing, terminating, and testing fiber optic and copper cable assemblies. These assemblies are essential for a variety of ship services such as power, communication, telephone, and alarm systems. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work from customer drawings are vital. Previous experience with multi-pin copper connectors is required, while fiber optic skills are preferred but not mandatory, as training and certification will be provided in-house.

Responsibilities

  • Install, tag, and band fiber optic and copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval Vessels.
  • Perform layout, fabrication, and installation of electrical wiring, coaxial cable, waveguides, or fiber optic cable onboard Navy vessels.
  • Troubleshoot and test fiber and copper cables and circuits.
  • Possess the ability to perform tasks of a shipboard or airframe electrician with minimal supervision.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
  • Utilize tools such as multi-meters, pin crimpers, and soldering equipment to accomplish complex tasks related to electrical installation.

Essential Skills

  • Experience as a Marine Electrician with 3-5 years relevant experience in ship repair onboard US Navy ships.
  • Proficiency with multi-pin connectors and cableway or cable handling certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills and MS-Office programs including Word and Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Former Navy experience as an Electronics Technician (ET), Information Systems Technician (IC), Aviation Maintenance (AT), or Electrician's Mate (EM) is highly preferred.
  • Technical education may be substituted for part of the experience requirement.

Work Environment

Work will be conducted at various facilities including NBSD, NASNI (Coronado), CMSD, NASSCO, Austal, and BAE. The role may require overtime, weekend work, and extended travel periods.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
