Job Description
The Machine Operator will join a production team focused on cable manufacturing, operating industrial machinery at required speeds while maintaining precise tolerances and product quality. This role includes setting up and running cable machines, conducting product tests, following detailed work instructions, and supporting the department with safety, housekeeping, and documentation. The position also involves assisting on other cable lines and performing cross-functional tasks as needed to keep production running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate cable manufacturing machines safely and efficiently in accordance with production requirements.
- Maintain required tolerances and continuously monitor equipment performance throughout production runs.
- Perform testing and inspection of cable products to verify quality according to established procedures.
- Follow production plans, work instructions, blueprints, schematics, and standard operating procedures.
- Assist other cable lines and perform cross-functional tasks to support overall production operations.
- Support departmental activities including housekeeping, organization, and adherence to safety standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, job instructions, and equipment manuals to ensure proper machine setup and operation.
- Use basic measurement tools, such as tape measures, to verify dimensions and product specifications.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status, quality issues, or equipment concerns.
- Perform general labor tasks related to production, including material handling and heavy lifting as needed.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting of machinery to minimize downtime and maintain efficient production flow.
- Complete required documentation accurately to record production, testing, and quality results.
Essential Skills
- Experience operating industrial manual machinery in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Basic experience with machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and job instructions.
- Ability to perform basic measurements using tools such as a tape measure.
- Solid basic math skills to support measurements and production calculations.
- Comfort with labor-intensive work and performing heavy lifting as part of daily tasks.
- Attention to detail to maintain specified tolerances and product quality.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with team members and supervisors.
- Strong work ethic and reliable attendance to support consistent production output.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, particularly in cable or similar production, is an asset.
- Familiarity with quality inspection practices and basic product testing procedures.
- Ability to read and follow equipment manuals for operation and basic troubleshooting.
- Willingness to assist across different production lines and perform cross-functional tasks.
- Positive attitude, strong character, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Comfort working in environments that are not temperature controlled and may be hot or cold depending on the weather.

Work Environment
This role is based in an industrial manufacturing environment focused on cable production. The position operates on the second shift, running Monday through Friday from 2:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., with optional overtime available on weekends. The facility is not temperature controlled, so conditions can be hot or cold depending on the weather, and employees should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. Work involves operating industrial manual machinery, performing general labor, and handling heavy materials. Appropriate safety footwear and protective eyewear are required, and the company offers reimbursement for steel toe shoes and safety glasses upon permanent hire. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to standard operating procedures while maintaining steady production output.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Marcos, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
