Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

As a Medical Assistant, you will coordinate patient care and flow, ensuring a seamless experience for both patients and clinicians. You will escort patients to exam rooms, obtain brief histories and vital signs, and enter data into the electronic health record system (EHR). You will also assist clinicians with procedures, prepare patients for exams, and perform requested patient-specific tasks post-consultation. Your role will include completing consent forms, providing patient education and referral materials, and maintaining the cleanliness and stock of exam rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient care and flow.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain brief history and vital signs.
  • Enter data into the electronic health record system (EHR) and update records for clinician's review.
  • Assist clinicians with procedures and prepare patients for exams.
  • Perform requested patient-specific tasks after consultations.
  • Complete consent forms and provide patient education and referral materials.
  • Clean and stock exam rooms before, during, and after clinic sessions.
  • Answer incoming calls and assist with appointment scheduling when performing front desk duties.
  • Review the upcoming week's schedule to ensure necessary supplies are in stock.
  • Complete e-prescribing tasks and all assigned tasks in EHR in a timely manner.
  • Review EHR tasks at the end of visits, assisting clinicians with any pending tasks.
  • Maintain EHR records accurately following clinic policies and procedures.
  • Assist in laboratory tasks as necessary.
  • Complete tasks in the case management system daily.
  • Enroll patients in the Patient Assistance Program.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in medical assisting and patient care.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and appointment scheduling.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification.
  • Ability to measure and record vital signs.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Open to entry-level candidates.
  • MA certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Work Environment

Work onsite at a fast-paced clinic, seeing between 20 - 40 patients daily, depending on the site. A team environment is essential, with a primary demographic of Spanish-speaking patients. The clinic fosters an environment of respect, compassion, and dignity, promoting from within and training individuals. The organization is a Federally qualified health center, committed to providing affordable healthcare to all.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Barbara, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
