Job Description
The Accountant/Financial Analyst is a pivotal corporate staff position responsible for overseeing and managing financial records. This mid-level role provides essential support for the day-to-day operations of the Finance department and reports directly to the Controller.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger and reporting table, leading the monthly close and ensuring reconciliations are completed.
- Complete funding requests and reporting for multiple government and other grants.
- Review and direct all ledger postings from subsystems and external processing systems.
- Evaluate the methodology of applying cost allocation percentages to various programs to ensure they are appropriate and reasonable.
- Participate in or lead cross-department special projects, such as new software implementation.
- Suggest and implement improvements to processes and systems.
- Support and develop a cooperative environment, mentoring wherever possible.
- Assist with audits and prepare documents for CPA-prepared tax returns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting software, specifically Sage Intacct.
- Experience in general ledger functions, month-end/year-end close processes, custom report writing, and project management.
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency with MS Office programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
- Five years of full-time experience in an accounting role, with at least one year in non-profit fund accounting.
- Experience with Nonprofit Fund Accounting Software, such as Sage Intacct, is advantageous.
- Experience with Department of Veterans Affairs accounting and reporting is highly desirable.
Work Environment
The position offers an onsite work environment with a four-day work week after conversion. Candidates should be comfortable sitting or standing at a computer workstation for extended periods and possess the ability to type approximately 45 words per minute. The environment requires a motivated, innovative self-starter who can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
