Job Title: Staff Accountant
Job Description
Join a dynamic commercial construction company specializing in public works projects, with a primary focus on supporting CalTrans projects. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a vital role in managing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and various transactional accounting responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Review all invoices for job identification and taxes.
- Complete all necessary Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for subcontractors.
- Process invoices and issue checks.
- Post accounts payable invoices and maintain records.
- Follow up on any missing invoices or invoice-related issues.
- Distribute employee credit card expense reports and manage receipts for reimbursement.
- Process employee expense reports and reimbursements.
- Set up job cost codes and categories in Timberline.
- Update pre-lien records per job in Timberline.
- Manage time & material worksheets, pre-liens, stop notices, and progress billings.
- Manage Cal-OSHA permits and safety forms (Form 300).
- Serve as a backup for payroll needs, including garnishments/deductions.
- Oversee unemployment claims and set up new hires in internal systems.
- Manage W-4s, payroll tax deposits/withholdings, and quarterly payroll tax reports.
- Manage subcontractor certified payroll reports and fringe benefits reports.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in accounting, construction accounting, and GAAP principles.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and vlookups.
- Experience with accounts payable, payroll, certified payroll, general ledger, reconciliation, month-end processes, journal entry, reporting, accounts receivable, balance sheet, financial statements, and cost accounting.
- Familiarity with Timberline construction accounting software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business.
- 3+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant within the construction industry, particularly in union payroll and public works.
- Experience with construction accounting software, Timberline preferred.
Work Environment
The role requires working on-site five days a week in a small company setting, consisting of 3 office staff and 10 field staff. The environment fosters collaboration and offers opportunities to contribute significantly to impactful projects.
Compensation:$83000
