As a Journeyman Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment, configuration, and sustainment of a secure, resilient network infrastructure. This mid-level technical role plays a critical part in modernizing base communications systems, enhancing network performance, and ensuring interoperability with enterprise services and mission systems. The Journeyman Network Engineer supports projects involving the integration of switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and structured cabling. This position works alongside Senior Engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and others to implement network solutions that meet performance, security, and availability requirements.

Position will be located at Schriever SFB.

This position is contingent upon successful contract award to V2X.

Responsibilities

Major Job Activities:
  • Multi-disciplined network engineer with experience across wired, wireless, and mobile broadband solutions.
  • Implements requirements, aids in designs and network topology artifact creation.
  • Assists with developing designs, configurations, and implementations of data networks based on the customers' performance and specifications.
  • Conducts site surveys and network assessments to determine the best hardware and software components for network upgrades to ensure networks are reliable, efficient, and secure.
  • Supports preliminary and final SPRIP development.
  • Conducts systems pre-tests and acceptance tests to validate the designed performance criteria.
  • Ensures installations are performed within safety standards and work site conditions (cleanliness), including restoration of the site to original or better condition.
  • Provides Post-Deployment Over-the-Shoulder Training to the O&M team to ensure smooth transition of the network systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP). Supports cyber artifacts such as topology / data flow diagrams, hardware / software lists, STIG checklists, ports / protocols / services, and POA&Ms.
  • Supports design and implementation of secure networks, systems, and application architectures.
  • Supports network management such as SNMP, SYSLOG, and orchestration.
  • Supports LOM to capture all major components and installation materials to ensure successful deployment of systems.
  • Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable.
  • Ensures network solutions follow all pertinent DAF policies and established compliant IT system integrations.
  • Assists the O&M team in troubleshooting network-related issues post-deployment of the new systems.
  • Gathers and analyzes system requirements to design and implement network solutions that are secure and scalable.
  • Coordinates with local Communication Squadron and/or regional cybersecurity teams to configure, turn up, and cutover new deployments.

Material & Equipment Directly Used:

Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Working Environment:

Office environment with potential to support austere locations.

Physical Activities:

Must be able to lift / carry 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:
  • Technical BA / BS Degree; Or
  • High School Diploma or Associate Degree.
  • CCNA or equivalent.
  • CompTIA Security+
Experience / Skills:
  • 5 years with BA / BS Degree; Or
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Network Engineer for large, complex programs / systems with a High School or associate degree.
Clearance Requirement:
  • This position requires an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret (Tier 3) level clearance.
Skills & Technology Used:
